García del Castañar, un noble español, vive disfrazado de pastor en el campo. Su honor queda manchado cuando un noble, Don Mendo, trata de seducir a su esposa. Creyendo que es el rey, no se atreve a vengar su afrenta, ya que reconoce que su honor es inferior al rey mismo.
